Did You Know? Stream via URL

Our Did You Know series brings some of Initial State’s amazing features to attention while giving tips and tricks on how to make the most of them.

Did you know that you can stream events to Initial State from your browser with simple URL parameters? Adding that one piece of location data so that you can have beautiful Map tile you really wanted no longer requires getting on your Pi’s network and SSHing in – no, you can do it straight from the web browser you’re reading this on.

Just click on the “settings” link under any bucket name in the bucket shelf.  This will bring up the screen below. Copy the text in the API Endpoint section and paste it in the address bar or in a text editor.

The URL will look like https://groker.initialstate.com/api/events?accessKey=XrB*********************************&bucketKey=EW6*********** and contain your access and bucket keys. Simply add a “&” followed by your stream name and value to the URL parameters to complete the URL (i.e. &MyStream=off)

Just paste the complete URL into the address bar of your browser and hit enter to send the event!

You can read more about streaming this way here.
