Weekly Envy: Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1

on March 30 | by

The Weekly Envy highlights one piece of cool tech that we’ve come across lately and really wish we could buy!

From Artiphon:

The Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 is a device that lets you play any instrument, style, or sound by connecting directly to apps on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. And it’s beautifully simple.

It looks so sleek and portable (it even has built-in speakers). I’m not even a musician and this had me drooling. Artiphon’s kickstarter video is fantastic and does a wonderful job of showing what the INSTRUMENT 1 can do:

The device will even come with a companion app that allows you to save instrument settings for easy transitioning. It also works with any MIDI-compatible software.

We’re not the only ones that think this is cool either. Funding doesn’t even close till April 12, 2015, and Artiphon has already raised $971,526, setting a record for the Nashville area.

At $399, the INSTRUMENT 1 is also a steal considering that that’s close to the average price of an electric guitar and a piano costs 10 times that. It greatly lowers the entry barrier to music (especially if you’re not sure what instrument you like best), while allowing all sorts of physically impossible combinations of sound.
