The Weekly Envy highlights one piece of cool tech that we’ve come across lately and really wish we could buy!
The Iro Smart Sprinkler Controller is a beautiful marriage between your everyday sprinkler system controller and the Internet of Things.
The square controller is the same size as your average sprinkler timer, plugs into the wall, and takes away all of the previous hassle that programming a sprinkling schedule created. It’s controlled and setup via mobile or webpage and can be used with existing and new home sprinkling systems.
Taking advantage of its internet connectivity by checking the weather for you and adjusting your sprinkler times accordingly, the Iro controller will even connect with your Nest Protect so that your sprinklers will turn on if smoke is detected to prevent fire spread.
Rachio also claims that their Iro device saves users over 30% on outdoor water usage while also getting them EPA certification related rebates.
For just $249 you can connect 8 “zones” (or sprinklers) to the Rachio network through your Iro – a pretty reasonable price considering how much money and time it’ll likely save you in the future. Doubling the number of zones you can add ups the price to $299, and a weatherproof enclosure is an additional $39.
